‘Tis a sad day for partygoers, especially in Los Angeles. It brings us no great pleasure to announce that A Club Called Rhonda, the anthropomorphized party series hosted by Rhonda INTL, has had to cancel its legendary New Year’s Eve event known as Rhondapolis. Less than a week before the event, Rhonda released a statement, explaining that the venue (Standard Hotel, Downtown LA) insisted on the cancellation, citing “operational issues,” a vague term also used in a statement from The Standard. It’s unclear exactly what is meant by these issues, but noteworthy that the hotel has fallen under immense media scrutiny following a late-night shooting, which allegedly followed a confrontation at an event, resulting in one death and several injuries.
Rhondapolis, a massive, four-stage takeover of the whole hotel on New Years Eve, was set to feature some of dance music’s greatest legends, including Jackmaster, DJ Harvey, and xxxy. According to organizers, “guests who have already purchased tickets… will be receiving a refund automatically, and guests with room reservations will be contacted by The Standard.”
Minimal Effort, the beloved quarterly celebration of LA’s underground scene, has just announced the full lineup for their upcoming New Year’s party at the legendary Belasco Theater in downtown LA. The New Years Eve festivities will continue as it will be accompanied by the Minimal Effort New Year’s Day Recovery party, which is… exactly what it sounds like. The Recovery party will feature world-class DJ’s and sets from Carl Craig, Audiofly, and Dance Spirit (live) to start 2016 off on a strong foot.
The Lights Down Low collective (SF) will also be hosting a room at the New Year’s Eve shindig, and bringing artists such as Silent Servant, Black Asteroid, and Adra. In the other three rooms, you will find some of LA’s best talent, with the likes of Tara Brooks, Jeniluv, Whitney Fierce, JIA, Human Resources, and Lee K, joined by a lineup of international talent including Danny Daze, Jimmy Edgar, J. Phlip, Marquez Wyatt, H.O.S.H., Fur Coat, and more. Last year’s event was spectacular, and from the looks of it, they are going above and beyond this year. Minimal Effort never disappoints, and this New Year’s Eve will be no exception.
Tickets to Minimal Effort New Year’s Eve include admission to the Recovery event on Jan. 1, subject to capacity.

Techno Therapy this week comes just in time to celebrate the New Year. Today we bring you an excellent track from the duo, Fur Coat, which they have also so kindly put up for free download on their Soundcloud. A nice little post holiday present right before their NYE show in LA for Minimal Effort’s Black & White extravaganza.
Polyphonic, as the name suggests, is loaded with that warm grit that can be attributed to many polyphonic synths throughout history. The filters ring out when they’re opened up, and Fur Coat utilizes the iconic sound to fatten up the track with many layers making this an intense dance floor tool. Fur Coat is an excellent compliment to the other artists on the lineup, so expect them to lay down some great tracks while they keep the energy going.
If you’re still looking for New Years Eve plans, Minimal Effort still has Tier 4 tickets and Open Bar VIP tickets remaining. Keep in mind it is a ticket only event, but you can go to the link below for more info.
