Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival Returns for 8th Edition

Music festivals have taken on a whole new dimension over the years. Many festivals such as Decibel and ADE extend beyond the music festival itself, and offer attendees a wide array of events such as workshops, panel discussions, and of course, world class musical performances from some of the best in the game.

Today, Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) announced that they will return to Williamsburg on November 6th and 7th to host their eighth edition of BEMF. In 2014, BEMF hosted over 30 events spanning across ten venues throughout Williamsburg, and featured a wide range of artists such as Nicolas Jaar, The Black Madonna, Route 94, and more.

BEMF 2015 is also teaming up with THUMP to lead a plethora of free daytime panel discussions that always prove to be a wealth of insightful information for fans and industry folk alike.

The lineup is still forthcoming, but limited “blind faith” tickets are on sale now for $80– which provides access to all events, panels, pre-parties and after parties. One night passes will also be available for those interested.

For more information, stay up to date and connect with BEMF

Rooftop Fire at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas

Today, on July 25th, a rooftop fire broke out at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Vegas around noon. Several floors of the hotel were evacuated, and so far only one person has been treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was put out within an hour, and investigations are underway as to what caused the fire at the Bamboo Pool at Marquee. Marquee is one of the premier Vegas clubs for electronic and mainstream music, and at this point it is unknown how the fire will affect upcoming events and operations.

Fox5 Vegas has uploaded a video of the fire, and report that 110 firefighters were required to relinquish the flames. Clark County Deputy Fire, Chief Greg Cassell, also states that two people were harmed with minor injuries during the fire.

The total amount of the fire damages has not been determined, but it appears that The Cosmopolitan Hotel will have a very unexpected expense on their hands soon. Stay up to date for more information and news regarding the fire at The Cosmopolitan.

Tini & The Gang Gets Shut Down in Ibiza

Tini with Crowd

Since it’s inception, Tini & The Gang has become an integral event in Ibiza’s nightlife. Among the onslaught of world-class clubbing there’s something special about a free beach party with Tini and her respective guests. Unfortunately for Tini & The Gang and the quintessential Ibiza vibes, the fun came to a stop last week as Ibiza Police were called to shut down the event.

The news came via a mobile upload on Tini’s Facebook, with a variety of people voicing their opinion about the changing landscape and party ethics of Ibiza. According to Tini, the Ibiza Police arrived due to a complaint that was called in, but we have trouble coming to peace with the thought that someone would do such a thing in Ibiza. If that is the case, it’s a rather unfortunate one for those in attendance on that fine Friday afternoon.

Let’s hope this is the first and last time that Tini & The Gang experience a speed bump like this. May the rest of the Ibiza season for Tini flow as smoothly as the beats.

Doppler Labs Unveils Here Active Listening System

here doppler

Doppler Labs has already been making waves this year with their game-changing Dubs Acoustic Filters, some of the most comfortable earplugs on the market at an affordable price. Today, the company has yet again pushed the envelope with the announcement of their upcoming “Here Active Listening System”, a set of powered earplugs that are controlled by a mobile app. Using your smartphone, users can adjust the level of noise reduction to taste; however, it doesn’t end there. The smartphone app also features a five-band EQ, various audio FX, preset filters, and preset modes. Perhaps most exciting are these presets, which can provide either functional operations (such as “jet engine” or “baby crying”) or aural enhancement (to enhance the sound rather than subdue it).

Doppler Labs has initiated a Kickstarter campaign in conjunction with the announcement of Here Active Listening; with 28 Days remaining their Kickstarter has already raised $109,000, and with steady support it appears that reaching their goal of $250,000 will not be a problem. CEO and Co-Founder of Doppler Labs, Noah Kraft, had this to say about the Here Active Listening System:

“With the Here Active Listening System we want to give you the tools to have the perfect listening experience. We all perceive sound differently, but everyone has been to a concert where the audio wasn’t quite right or has been subjected to a long flight with a screaming baby.  Here changes all that, giving control back to the listener by allowing you to curate what you hear and how you hear it.  Our goal is to make it so you never have to deal with noise or a bad mix ever again.”

Doppler Labs have quickly and definitively established themselves as an authority in the hearing loss prevention industry. After giving every Coachella attendee a pair of Dubs Acoustic Filters, they have cemented their position within the dance music community as well. With the Here Active Listening System, Doppler Labs has developed a one-of-a-kind product that will revolutionize acoustics while spreading awareness about hearing loss (a topic that we don’t take lightly)”Here” is ideal for many applications with it’s broad range of functions and features, and can be utilized by anyone and everyone in their daily lives.

The product has been fully developed and tested, and is undergoing crowd funding via Kickstarter for mass production. While one can contribute any amount, any contribution over $179 gets you your own Here Active Listening System. The concept and vision of Doppler Labs is incredibly forward thinking, and the introduction of Here will certainly revolutionize the sonic market.

Here Active Listening System is set to retail for $249 with an official release date to be announced.

  • Smartphone-controlled
  • Volume reduction control
  • 5-Band EQ
  • Audio FX (such as reverb, flange, vinyl distortion, and more)
  • Preset filters and modes designed for specific applications
  • Completely wireless (connects by bluetooth)
  • 6 hour battery life (includes a carrying case that can hold 2 full charges)
  • Multiple silicone tip sizes

Kenny Glasgow Leaves Art Department

Kenny Glasgow has just announced that he will no longer be a part of Art Department with Jonny White. The two have released numerous tracks and albums over the years, and collectively have provided sonic bliss to dance floors world-wide.

While this does come as a surprise to fans, perhaps this could have been predicted when Kenny Glasgow released a solo track on the No. 19 Spring Sampler earlier this year. Following up with this release on the sampler and his departure from Art Department, Glasgow intends to release a solo LP later this year through No. 19 Music.

In regards to his leaving Art Department, Glasgow had this to say:

“This kind of a project is like a creative marriage and after 5 years we just feel like there’s more we need to do in other areas. Having already released a solo album, I have felt a strong need to follow that up and explore that side of my production. Art Department is in a great place and I’m not getting any younger, now is the time” [Source – Pulse Radio]

However, just because they will no longer work together as Art Department, this doesn’t mean the musical efforts of Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White are over. The two are planning the launch of a new project, Social Experiment, while Jonny White continues the Art Department legacy as his solo project.
