Electric Island Toronto Concludes 2016 Season with a 2 Day Showcase

Torontos’ electronic music picnic and concert series, Electric Island, is set to conclude this Labor Day weekend.  For the first time since its 2013 inception, Electric Island will be spread across two days on Sept. 4th and 5th. The closing weekend will feature an array of acts from the likes of Dixon, Âme (LIVE), Get Real (Green Velvet b2b Claude Von Stroke), Loco Dice, Fatima Yamaha, Nicole Moudaber, Bicep, Guy J, and Justin Martin blending across a series of House and Techno with a splash of Electronic Pop to keep attendees on their toes.

Following the massive success from The Civic Holiday weekend in early August that drew well over 6,000 music lovers and making it one of the most memorable series to date. It is safe to say that the momentum will only carry forward into this weekend as local and international festival-goers will come to celebrate the rise of Toronto’s House & Techno scene, much thanks to the organizer’s relentless effort to push forward on this vision and making the city a bucket list destination for music travelers from around the world for many years to come.

Toronto is a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic CN Tower. The city also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400-acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and zoo. Toronto is also known for their great local dining options and outdoor/indoor farmer’s market style such as the St. Lawrence Market. You can be sure we’ll be arriving there a few days early to soak up the city vibe before making our way to Queen’s Quay for the closing weekend of Electric Island 2016.

Although the Intec Digital boss has announced his desire to continue playing on the island as a guest DJ, 2016 truly marks the end of an era with the Final Chapter becoming one of the hottest nights of the entire season. Guy J Set to Release Third Album on Bedrock Records

Guy J live

“Every passing moment, I try to learn more and get better at what I do. My third album shows exactly where I am now as an artist. I’m very proud to give something unique to the industry. Just pure honest music “ – Guy J

Look at the forefront of the progressive genre and you will find Guy J right in the mix with some of the most talented artists around. Throughout the years he’s built up an esteemed catalog with major releases on Bedrock Records and his own imprint, Lost and Found, with his third studio album solidifying his role in the electronic industry.

Guy J new albumThe Trees, The Sea, and the Sun picks up right where he left off with previous albums, Esperanza and 1,000 Words, with his forthcoming album demonstrating an immense technical and creative range as an artist. Like his previous releases, The Trees, The Sea, and the Sun take on many different atmospheres and varying energy levels, while fulfilling a cohesive journey stretched out over twenty two tracks. From low slung burners like Bungalow and Provokoter to melodic anthems such as Live Another Day and Sleep in My Arms, the album touches upon many eclectic moods.

The album is split into two parts – Part 1 seems to embody a more structured approach and arrangement, whereas Part 2 sees Guy J go in a much more experimental direction. Tracks like Miss You Miles Away is a detailed sonic piece that casts a veil of ambiance over the listener, while a track like Mad Sine sees Guy J push the limit with sine wave frequencies. For the casual fan or deeply interested sound nerd, this album will keep you locked in for the duration.

As a prelude to the full album release, Guy J and Bedrock Records are releasing Nirvana, a dynamic single from the album that perfectly sets the tone for the grand piece to follow. You can stream Nirvana from the player below, with the rest of the album being available on November 13th.

The 2xCD and Limited 12″ Vinyl Sampler are both available for pre-order now from the Bedrock Store. For more information, make sure to stay up to date with Guy J and Bedrock Records.

Guy J – December Around the World

GuyJ body

When someone refers to “progressive” in regards to dance music, it often has a negative connotation towards more mainstream and festival “EDM”. But when we say progressive, we think of the beautiful and eclectic sounds from artists like Guy J, Hernan Cattenao, and Nick Warren. In his recent December Around the World mix, Guy J puts on the best showcase to the sounds of the progressive genre.

Lush pads and vibrant basslines start the mix off on a high note as the mix takes emotional turns through the various aspects of progressive house and techno. December Around the World stays true to it’s melodic and swaying elements, and it isn’t until the last 15 minutes that Guy J turns it up a notch with some jackin hats and driving basslines. If you have any friends with misconceptions about progressive house, this would be the ideal mix to convince them otherwise. Enjoy the final few days of 2014 as well as this phenomenal mix from Guy J.
