Field Trip Series: Ostgut Ton at Trouw

Trouw Amsterdam

Label showcase events are special gatherings. It is an opportunity for artists and friends to share the same stage, and deliver a night that will be remembered by fans and DJ’s alike. For Field Trip 08, we imagine ourselves on the dancefloor at Trouw Amsterdam for the Ostgut Ton marathon. This night surely won’t disappoint

When one thinks “techno”, Ostgut Ton is a record label that easily comes to mind. Owned and operated by the famous Berlin club, Berghain, Ostgut Ton never disappoints in delivering cutting edge and forward thinking techno. Which is why the clubbers attending the label night at Trouw are in for quite a treat. They will be dancing all night to the sounds of Marcel Dettmann, Steffi, Anthony Parasole, Norman Nodge, amongst other Ostgut Ton staples. For the full lineup check out the event listing on Resident Advisor.

The night is highly anticipated, but in light of news about Trouw closing in January 2015, this places an even bigger emphasis on the remaining parties that the club will host. Last year they announced the news via a statement on their website that they would close, and more recently have set the final closing date at January 3rd, 2015. This whole year the club made two significant changes that parallel the philosophy of Berghain/Panorama Bar:

no phones1) “What happens in Trouw, stays in Trouw”

In the club’s final year, they have adopted the no camera policy to foster a free clubbing environment in which the attendees can fully embrace the atmosphere and energy in the room.

2) No pre-sales for regular club nights

In addition to a no camera policy, the club also relinquished pre-sale tickets. In the statement, the club voiced that popular events were selling out very quickly and felt that this excluded many people from enjoying the night.

That being said, the Ostgut Ton artists should feel right at home this Friday at Trouw. This is the first party that kicks off the beginning of the end so to speak for the iconic Amsterdam club, and this lineup seems to be the most appropriate way to get things going.

Additionally, both Anthony Parasole and Steffi have relatively new releases out. You can preview Parasole’s My Block EP and Steffi’s Power of Anonymity on the Ostgut Ton Soundcloud. These two along with the rest of the Ostgut Ton roster makes for one incredible evening.

It seems at times that life can be a never ending stream of amazing lineups and parties, but when an event like this rolls around there is an added sense of emotion and nostalgia that goes with it. I’m sure the staff and fans of Trouw have experienced many incredible nights on that dance floor, and as it approaches the final month of parties they can hopefully look back on the memories with upmost happiness. If we could, we’d take the Field Trip there ourselves, but to anyone in Europe we highly recommend making the journey to experience Trouw one last time.

Field Trip 06: Watergate, Berlin

Flyer Nov 21

There are many club nights that we can dream of attending, but this Friday at Watergate Berlin easily comes in at the top of the list. Berlin is a city that is known as a hub for artists and musicians, especially in the techno industry, and nights like this shed light on why the city is so special. This Friday Watergate will host an all-star German lineup including Santé, Alex Niggemann, Metro, Robin Drimalski, Tiefschwarz, and a special live set from Âme. An extended party with a lineup like this can only mean one thing; one damn good time!

They don’t call it Watergate for nothing. The club is a two level institution overlooking the Spree River in Berlin, and is home to a phenomenal soundsystem and light installation that makes this a must-visit for anyone visiting the city. And with consistent lineups like this Friday it shouldn’t take much convincing even for the seasoned international clubber.

This lineup would be impressive regardless of what club plays host, but there is always something special when artists play on home turf. All of these artists have their own distinct style, and with them all coming together under one roof the vibe is sure to be proper from start to finish. For a small preview you can take a listen to Tiefschwarz’s Hello Watergate Podcast here:

So now after listening to sets and dreaming of setting foot in this iconic club, it makes me think…is it too early to book the next flight to Berlin? A stacked lineup of German talent in a relatively small club on the Spree River sounds like a dream come true. According to the Watergate Official Website, it will be Âme, Tiefschwarz, and Metro on the main floor while Santé, Alex Niggemann, and Robin Drimalski handle the soundtrack to the water floor. This is exactly where you’d find me if I were taking a techno Field Trip this weekend.

Field Trip 05: A Night at Fabric, London

This week, we close our eyes and imagine ourselves at Fabric for a night of techno that can and should be appreciated in an environment like that club. It’s never too early to start dreaming; on Saturday November 15th, the rooms at Fabric will be taken over by a stellar lineup of underground talent. Take a look at why we’d want to make a Field Trip for this one. Three rooms of nothing but outstanding music at Fabric this weekend. Event on Resident Advisor: Fabric with Desolat and guests

Room 1

Loco Dice

Guti (Live)

Hector

Room 2

Terry Francis

Marcel Fengler

KiNK (Live)

 Room 3

Richy Ahmed

Nathan Barato

Between these three rooms, clubbers will have their hands full this weekend. The Desolat crew will certainly be bringing their signature tech house sound, and with Guti contributing a live performance that will only add more to the vibe of the main room. That being said, Hector always finds a way to deliver slick rolling grooves to the dance floor. Check out his guestmix for THUMP right here:

The same can be said about KiNK’s live performance. Los Angeles was lucky enough to have him dazzle us with his live performance at Lot 613 towards the end of summer, so I can only begin to imagine the music onslaught that is to come in Room 2. And to sweeten the deal a little, let’s toss Berghain resident Marcel Fengler into the mix and you have one banging party going on.

Room 3 completes the night perfectly with Ahmed and Barato, both having recently released on Hot Creations. You can have a listen to the two respective releases of Richy Ahmed and Nathan Barato on Beatport. With three rooms of stacked talent like this, it’s no wonder why Fabric is held in such high esteem in the international clubbing community. One of the most powerful and clear sound systems in conjunction with a phenomenal booking policy makes Fabric one of the most respected nightlife institutions in the world.

Club nights around the world consistently have the best to offer when it comes to quality dance music. Nights like this at Fabric portray just that. An eclectic mix of artists ranging from Desolat to Berghain, this party should not be missed by anyone within a 100 mile radius of London. Check it out next week to see what event our Field Trip takes us to…or…wish it took us to.
