Digging Deeper at ADE with DESNA and Johnny Trika

6AM chats with two Arcana Agency artists in the midst of a busy ADE 2017 week.

Desna and Johnny Trika both produce and play techno, although with characteristically different soundscapes of their own. Desna’s path has seen her strive to move away from labels, choosing instead to focus on quality music production of a transcendental nature, inspired by artists such as Ben Klock, Len Faki, and Jeff Rushin just to name a few. She rose from the ranks of one of the world’s most competitive dance music cities, New York, performing at gay parties which ultimately led to launching her own controversial event series.

Johnny’s story is a little different. “Discovered” by Dubfire himself, he has been a Sci-Tec label mainstay for a while now, armed with a minimal techno sound that perfectly fits that of the Iranian-born producer and his label. Born in Montreal, Johnny is a gear aficionado, and it shows both in his studio and live set-up, as well as the mesmerizing and intense live performances he has now been doing all over the world, each one stacked only with original material, both released hits and unreleased gems.

Dubfire b2b David Guetta: A Friendship that Transcends Time and Music Genres

Some of the best friendships are often the ones hardest to explain, which can seem to be the case with David Guetta and Ali Shirazinia, commonly known by his stage name Dubfire.

Yet, a quick glance at the past and you can instantly spot where their paths crossed and their friendship began, born out of musical respect, as well as an instant personal connection. In a recent interview for a forthcoming Dubfire documentary, the two stars sat down with Pacha Magazine and explained the origins of their lasting friendship, which began roughly ten years ago when Deep Dish and David Guetta swapped duties for remix projects on each other’s music.

It all startedwhen Deep Dish added their twist to David Guetta’s “The World Is Mine,” whilst the French start remixed the duo’s iconic “Flashdance,” setting the two stars on a personal friendship that remains strong to this day.

It’s safe to say that since that time both of the artist’s sounds have changed. The Deep Dish project was put on hold for several years before it was picked up again a couple of years ago, although Dubfire remains focused on is solo career more than ever. Guetta went on to collaborate with some of the world’s biggest pop and hip-hop artists, becoming one of the biggest EDM artists in the world.

When it is all said and done, however, Guetta credits the Deep Dish remix as a really important part of his early career:

“I was really huge in France but I was struggling at a international level,” said Guetta. “It was the first time my record was playing everywhere because they were really hot at the time — so I’m really thankful for that.”

Dubfire Shares First-Hand Witness Account of the Barcelona Terrorist Attacks

This week the entire world was shocked by the news of the terrorist attacks that hit Barcelona and left 13 killed and more than 100 injured. Many figureheads in the electronic music world joined in expressing their condolences for the victims and families, as well as their support for a city that is considered to be one of the main hubs in the industry.

Ali Shirazinia aka Dubfire was on Las Ramblas the day of the attack, and witnessed it first-hand. He had been riding his bicycle down the tree-lined pedestrian mall at the time of the rampage that unfortunately left many dead, and tweeted about it right away.

Today he also took to his Instagram to give a more detailed account of what he saw. He also noted that his performance at TheLightOff in Barcelona would still go on, and that he planned to donate his fee to charity: “We WILL NOT give into fear but will unite through music and the celebration of friendship… I hope that it helps in some way.”
