Learn How To Produce Progressive House with Master Darin Epsilon

Music production is a constant learning curve, especially for those newer to the process and facing a seemingly uphill battle needing to learn software and hardware from scratch.

With so many tutorials out there on the subject, it is hard to find a truly quality online tutorial that teaches the production of that Progressive House sound that remains so popular today. Step in DJ, producer and Perspectives Digital label chief Darin Epsilon, an artist with an impressive resumé of productions under his belt and the desire to teach others the fundamental techniques and methods he has learned and discovered while making a name for himself in the Progressive House scene.

Darin teamed up with Sonic Academy to create his own tutorial for the genre, featuring his popular track One Thousand & One Nights. In the tutorial Darin dives into the production process and brings learners right in with him, giving beginners and seasoned producers alike a chance to get insight into the fundamental techniques and methods he uses.

Darin Epsilon Celebrates 50th Release On Perspectives Digital

Seven years ago Chicago-born producer Darin Epsilon founded his label Perspectives Digital. Today, the imprint celebrates its 50th release featuring a collaboration between label boss Darin himself and prolific producer Cid Inc from Finland. The two highly respected artists have collaborated on a multitude of universally praised projects, including their ‘Outliers’ release in 2015, which launched the label’s first Beatport Play remix contest.

More recently, the duo achieved monumental success with their remix of ‘Auralphase’ by Robert Babicz, which charted in Beatport’s Top 100 Techno Tracks for 50 consecutive days, a testament to their prowess in the studio when collaborating together.  On the brink of their next DJ tour spanning from Canada to South America, they team up once again for ‘Resistencia’ & ‘Myndie’ – two ideal tracks for this milestone release.

The first track ‘Resistencia’ was inspired from Darin and Cid’s performances in northeast Argentina. This track evokes the vibrancy and love from the city it was named after. ’Resistencia’ is an uplifting journey that takes flight with warm and lush pads weaving into radiant chord progressions.

On the flip side is ‘Myndie’, a name which stuck with Cid Inc after his performance at the Rainbow Serpent festival earlier this year.  In Aboriginal Australian culture, the mythological rainbow serpent is considered to be either the giver of life or cause of great destruction, and is one of the oldest continuing religious beliefs in the world.  Creating a rumbling energy and nefarious vibe with its hard kick, shuffling highs, and mechanical sounds, the track will surely be a formidable force on the dancefloor.

6AM caught up with Darin the week leading up to the 50th release to discuss the achievements of the label thus far, his recent move to Berlin and more. Read it below and head to Beatport to get a copy of both tracks.

Freddy Be To Release “Holding Back” EP on Perspectives Digital

The latest and 41st release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital comes courtesy of one of LA’s longstanding DJs and promoters, Freddy Be. If you’ve partied on the West Coast during the last two decades or are in any way involved with the house music industry in the United States, it is likely you’ve heard of Freddy’s infamous Monday Social parties, which celebrate their 20th year as North America’s longest running weekly house music event later in 2016.

Freddy has been an integral part of the house music scene since the early 90s, in no small part thanks to his superb skills as a track selector and his ability to play to a wide array of crowds and rooms. His residencies have included such esteemed venues as Exchange LA, Audio SF, and Sound Nightclub, his proficiency behind the decks also landing him playing time across the nation and at major festivals the likes of Coachella, Desert Hearts, BPM, and Minus Zero.

As a producer, Freddy Be has seen previous tracks receive play by Carl Cox, Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, Danny Howells, Sander Kleinenberg, Quivver, and John Digweed on his massively popular ‘Transitions’ radio show. It is on Digweed’s show that Freddy’s latest track, “Holding Back” was first introduced to the world. The track is finally receiving a much deserved official release with remixes by Betoko, Soul Trader, and Deep Tribe featuring Violin Girl.

The first re-work of the track comes from Betoko, who has taken the spacial original and added the touch that has seen his music released on Get Physical, Diynamic, Suara, Kittball, and Supernature. The result is a high-octane and dance-floor-ready remix perfect for peak-time play.

Next up, it’s Soul Trader‘s turn to offer his take on “Holding Back.” You wouldn’t be mistaken in not knowing much about the producer, for little has been said about him other than the limited info his mentor and cohort Funkagenda has given us. He has had a spectacular debut EP on Incorrect Music and has remixed for Quivver and Deep Tribe. His last touch sees him add deep, throbbing techno influenced sounds to Freddy Be’s original to great effect.

The last edit comes way of LA duo Deep Tribe featuring Violin Girl. Dimitry Rozental and Andrew Knopf add strong waves of brooding emotion to the tracl, transforming it into a beautiful, sensual and slow piece of music interspersed by powerful violin chord progressions.

The EP is set for release on Beatport this coming Friday May 27th, 2016. You can preview it below via SoundCloud:

Cid Inc vs Darin Epsilon – Outliers (Original Mix)

With a fusion of tribal drums, distant drones, and infectious melodies Outliers is the type of track that we would imagine being welcomed with open arms at dance floors like Warung, Brazil. The track is a great testament to progressive house being alive and well, and currently has a place in the Top 100 Beatport Progressive Chart.
