SoundCloud has become the platform of choice for independent artists to promote their music, and much more so for music DJ’s and producers who share their mixes, remixes, and other content in the platform. Now, with a new member program being introduced, artists can also earn revenue from their content too.
SoundCloud recently relaunched their invite-only program called ‘SoundCloud Premier,’ which aims to provide opportunities for invited artists/members to earn from their content. The program was originally launched in 2014; this relaunching aims to reach out to its largest and most active user demographic: namely, music DJ’s and producers.
“This will be the first time we’ve invited DJs and producers who create remixes and sets on SoundCloud to start to be able to monetize and participate in the revenue that we’re generating through ads and subscriptions,” a SoundCloud spokesperson was quoted in an interview.
As for the revenue distribution, SoundCloud has stated that the revenue will be distributed based on how the content is consumed. While details are not yet clear as to how this consumption will be measured, some speculated that it will most likely be based on the amount of plays and listening time the artist has accumulated within a given period.
For now, SoundCloud has not yet revealed the artists included in SoundCloud Premier. However, artists are welcome to express their interest to join for a potential invite to the program. This signup link can be accessed through the SoundCloud Premier page.
