Jim Carrey, one of Hollywood’s most famous actors, will be starring in the controversial film adaptation of True Hallucinations. True Hallucinations shows the life and work of ethnobotanist and psychonaut Terence McKenna.
Carrey, known for his rubbery body movements and distinctive facial expressions, will take on the role of McKenna who advocated the use of hallucinogenic substances. McKenna believed plant-based psychedelics can increase many forms of human awareness and is very vocal about legalizing its use.
McKenna’s Amazon adventure paved the way for his eschatological theory of time. He is known for his theories on the power and meaning of psychedelics such as mushrooms. The original documentary focused on the chaos at La Chorrera, the imagination, time, the Logos, belief, hope, madness, and doubt. An experiment created by Peter Bergmann, it further explains their first movie The Transcendental Object At The End Of Time. McKenna was known for cultivating psilocybin mushrooms with his brother Dennis. Using ordinary kitchen implements, the new technique they discovered allowed production of edible mushrooms at home. He spoke about how plant-based psychedelics stimulate imagination, set up a harmonious relationship with nature and led to the discovery of universal mysteries.
Mystical Raven gives us further background on the movie: “In 1971, Terence McKenna, along with his brother Dennis and three other companions, ventured by plane, boat, and foot to the paradisiacal Colombian mission town of La Chorrera, where they hoped to encounter the elusive psychedelic oo-koo-hé. Fate would have it otherwise. Their attention soon turned to the large numbers of StrophariaCubensis that they lucked upon, and before long, Terence and especially Dennis were formulating the psychopharmacological “experiment at La Chorrera” which would eventually give rise to Terence’s expanded Jungian notion of the UFO as human oversoul, and his I Ching based TimeWave Theory which holds, among other things, that history as we know it is accelerating and, in fact, will come to a major concrescence.”
There have been rumors since 2016 of Jim Carrey’s involvement in the movie but they’ve only now confirmed. The movie will begin production this year and will surely make McKenna fans very happy. Immersing himself in nature to prepare himself in his new role, Jim Carrey already looks and sounds different from his usual self. Jim Carrey fans will be waiting to see how the new Jim will be in a movie that challenges the way people look at psychedelics. No release date yet as of this date.
