Hauswerks Drops ‘The Sound Scientist’ on Resonance Records

Hauswerks press

Hauswerks returns to Resonance Records with a phenomenal 4-track EP, and we’re especially impressed with this one. One of UK’s most versatile electronic artists, Hauswerks has rocked studios and dance floors around the world. The Sound Scientist includes three dance floor-ready tracks and a remix by Detlef (VIVa Warriors). Although he has released records on a number of labels, such as VIVa Limited, Secret Life, and Moda Black, Hauswerks has time and again turned to the Resonance crew to handle his releases. The EP comes right off the back with a Doorly collaboration on Hot Creation, which topped the charts for weeks.

The first track, The Sound Scientist, features a deep rolling bassline perfect for the warehouse, basement, or after-hours terrace, and out of the four tracks on the EP, this one comes closest to that classic Hauswerks signature sound that we’ve all grown to love. However, the style remains consistent throughout, with Groove Love delivering a deep groove that fits right in the pocket of the track, sitting right underneath lush, soulful synthesizers. Everyone is a bubbly jam with hard-punching rhythms, sure to get your feet (and your asses) moving. Finally, Detlef’s remix of The Sound Scientist goes in a much darker direction, evoking sounds and rhythms of generations past, and it is very easy to hear the influence of Detroit, Chicago, London, and NYC.

“The Sound Scientist” will be available 30th November 2015 via Resonance Records

Preview: Justin Jay “Mom I Graduated” EP

Justin jay banner

Congratulations to Los Angeles native Justin Jay on his recent graduation from USC – no stranger to the local dance scene, he has risen to international superstar status at the young age of 22. In 2013, Pete Tong named Justin Jay up-and-coming artist of the year, and he has had major support from some of the industry’s heaviest hitters, including Justin Martin and Claude von Stroke of dirtyBird

justin jay live photo

The story of Justin Jay’s rise to success is incredibly inspiring, considering that he accomplished all of this while attending USC as a full-time student. To celebrate the graduation, he will be dropping his Mom I Graduated EP, which includes “Hit It,” a dark tech house track reminiscent of the old-school, and “Make It Rain,” a bass-heavy banger garnished with classic drum machine grooves.

Last year, he sat down with the Nest for an in-depth video interview in which the dance community got a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the life of a producer who wows us more with every release, and a DJ who creates nothing but unforgettable nights. He’s been making some serious moves in the industry, and now that he’s done with school, we can only imagine what kind of new projects he has in the works. Justin Jay’s upcoming “Mom I Graduated” EP on dirtyBird will be available in September at the following sites.

Art Department “Kisses For Roses” Remixes Out Now

art department JW

Art Department has continued to gain momentum the past year, despite the surprising departure of Jonny White’s musical partner, Lenny Glasgow. The Canadian duo split several months ago when Kenny Glasgow left to pursue other musical and business goals, although Jonny White has continued to keep the Art Department project going. Following the success of Natural Selection, he has solidified Art Department’s position at the forefront of the dance scene through a number of releases on his No. 19 Records. Most recently, this came via a remix pack for Kisses for Roses, a solid vocal track from Natural Selection (No. 19, Ultra).

The Kisses for Roses remix pack includes a re-release of the original, along with 3 remixes from heavy hitters The Martinez Brothers and Soul Clap (the latter contributed both a vocal remix and a dub mix). The Martinez Brothers deliver the upbeat jackin’ energy they are so loved for, stripping the song back and adding some thumping drums.

Soul Clap, on the other hand, puts a more mellow touch on both of their remixes, creating funky jams perfectly suited for any pool party or after hours dance floor.

In addition to this killer release, No. 19 record label in and of itself has been having an incredibly strong year; Jonny White has curated some of the finest talent, the likes of which can be heard on the label’s recent Spring Sampler compilation, including tracks from Kenny Glasgow and many more.

Preview: Sydney Blu’s New Album “Relentless”

BLU

After the release of singles such as My Neighbours Hate Me, Vnderground, Need I Say More, and Teardrop, Sydney Blu is set to release Relentless, her first full length album at the end of July.

“I spent the past 2 years defining the sound I wanted to relay about myself to the world. This album is a great example of exactly that sound. It is also an example of the never ending, relentless passion I have to my work & art. This is Relentless. I hope people like it.” – Sydney Blu

Sydney Blu New Album ArtHailing from Toronto, one of Canada’s techno capitals, Sydney Blu has developed a deep affinity for all facets of underground dance music, and Relentless is the expansive outlet in which she can showcase her sound. With a mix of driving and groovy techno there’s something for each part of the night on Relentless. Relentless starts with a tense yet ambient intro complete with vocal treatment from widely popular dance singer/songwriter, Cari Golden. The intro then transitions into What’s Inside and acts as a welcoming opener to the rest of the album.

Nothing to Hide hits a deeper house groove with an elastic bassline that is soon offset by a progressive vocal break that would operate as a prime DJ tool for the club room.

The third track, Centipede, takes things in a more driving direction with a carefully treated acid bassline, ethereal pads, a dance floor friendly vocal, and drum programming that elevates the track to a peak time groove.

Up next we see Sydney Blu team up with Blue Gates to bring Electric Era. The chords dominate the spectrum on this one, but the attention quickly shifts as soon as an incredibly bouncy bassline reenters the mix. Add in the vocals of Fritz Helder, the vocalist of Azari & III) and you have everything you need ready for action.

Munich is another groove driven affair that combines sub-warming bass with tight drum programming.

Sydney Blu brings in two collaborations with D. Ramirez for the sixth and seventh track of Relentless. You Were the One and Need I Say More are primed and ready for the dance floor, but out of these two we predict the dance floor favorite to be Need I Say More.

The title of the eighth track is one that all DJ’s and producers can relate to. My Neighbors Hate Me is an excellent example of a tech house track that is loaded with energy and an infectious groove.

It Doesn’t Matter gives off the vibe of a long night at the afterhour. With a strong groove, the break comes as a welcome breather for those locked in to the dance marathon. But the break doesn’t last long as the track dives right back into the madness with a heavily treated LFO drone that melts into the spectrum.

Teardrop is a euphoric record embodying old school progressive, combined with new age tech-house. With uplifting, dreamy vocals from Jamie Lee Wilson, Teardrop takes things to a much more nostalgic place.

Vnderground is clearly a play on our beloved term “underground”, and we couldn’t be more happy with the result. This one really does feel underground…literally. Dusty snares trigger throughout the sequence with an immense low end to completely engulf anyone within the confines of the dance floor.

The twelfth track is the only remix on the album. Sydney Blu puts her musical interpretation on the famous track Mad World with Rachael Starr steeping up to provide the vocals.

Little Things focuses exactly on that, the little things. When many of the little elements come together to form a cohesive arrangement the result is a great piece of dance music. And to include the album, Sydney Blu reminds us of this with all the various textures utilized in the closing track.

Barem & Alexis Cabrera Launch Fun Records

Barem

“In the end, it’s just about good music and having fun. Just like the label name suggests” – Barem

Argentina has a habit for developing some of the finest artists in house and techno today. Barem, who has been an integral part of labels such as Minus and Sci-tec, is pairing up with fellow Argentinian, Alexis Cabrera, to launch Fun Records. The project is described as a laidback way to revitalize the character and integrity of the global dance scene.

The first release on Fun Records will come from label founders, Barem & Alexis Cabrera, and is so appropriately titled Turn on the Fun. If the tracks on the release are anything like Barem’s exclusive mix for Ibiza Voice, then we can expect some vibrant, groovy, and spacious beats from Fun Records.

EP art

In addition to the promotional mix for Ibiza Voice, Barem and Alexis Cabrera will be hosting Fun Records Showcases at Club4 (Barcelona), Watergate (Berlin), and The Egg Terrace (London). More club nights are expected to be announced, but these three are very appropriate and grand for the occasion.

Have a listen to the Fun Records mix by Barem, and get ready for some seriously fun and warm grooves from the duo and friends throughout the summer. With these two at the helm, we’re incredibly confident in their ability to follow through on their vision of having…you guessed it…FUN!

Preview: Dansson – Let’s Get Tight [A-Sided]

Dansson Banner

Quality, not quantity. That’s the mantra behind Jesse Rose’s new label, A-Sided. If the name didn’t give it away, the concept behind A-Sided is one quality track per release, and for their fourth release Dansson brings a serious dance floor thumper.

“The best tracks are done with a simple recipe and this one makes no exception…You find out how good a track really is when you play it out in the clubs and after the first time I knew that this is a good one. It was the winner most of the times I DJ’d and I’m really looking forward to the release because a lot of people have been asking me about it” – Dansson

Let’s Get Tight is an excellent fusion of dubby elements with trademark house grooves that capture the essence of the dance floor. With a warm elastic bassline to lure you in, the track kicks things into gear with the introduction of wobbly pads and tight percussion. Broken and chopped up vocals are ever present throughout the arrangement keeping things moving at a steady pace, and rounds off the release nicely. Let’s Get Tight definately fits the ethos of A-Sided. You can preview the track below, with the official release forthcoming on June 15th.

Preview: Livio & Roby – Here and There EP

Livio and Roby at WORK

With summer essentially here, we’re starting to see the music reflect the vibrant and energetic vibes of what is sure to be another excellent season. Following through with a serious groove oriented workout is the Romanian duo, Livio & Roby, with their forthcoming EP Here and There on Drumma Records. Here is a preview of all four tracks from the release.

Livio & Roby posses a strong understanding of underground electronic music, elegantly fusing together deep minimal grooves with quintessential house textures. The Here and There EP is the perfect showcase of their understanding and passion for the music, and will certainly be well received by DJ’s and dance floors alike. Right off the heels of their Jojoman EP as Premiesku, Here and There is the perfect follow up release to welcome summer with open arms.

Here and There EP is forthcoming at the end of this month on Drumma Records. For more information stay up to date with Livio & Roby and Drumma Records.

The EP kicks things off with Tul Astia, a strong tribal influenced groover that slowly builds on the foundation to turn the track into something special. Chords hit very faintly in the mix, but still manage to provide a blissful element to the overall arrangement. Tul Astia is the perfect ingredient to add to any open air or terrace set for maximum impact.

Sambata is an excellent combination of sounds that are sure to make a deep impact coming through the speakers. With steady drums keeping the track glued together, Livio & Roby keep things interesting with a chopped up vocal snippet while playing around the spectrum with various synths and instruments.

On the flip side of the release is a powerful minimal track honing in on some serious dance floor vibes. Bis Aid starts strong with stabs that are sure to take the dance floor into a great place during the night. The brief stabs work effortlessly off the tight drum programming, and with the introduction of dub echoed chords and an open hat groove the track evolves into a certified late night bomb. Bis Aid shows that more times than not, the B-Side is where a lot of the magic can happen on a release.

The EP finishes up with the title track, Here and There. Chords echo and pan around the spectrum capturing most of the attention, but it’s the subilties of Here and There that make it stand out. A droning white noise like atmosphere is ever present in the track with sustained string sections providing tension to compliment the other loose and laid back vibes of the track. Don’t let this B-Side fool you…it’s a unique collection of sounds and arrangements that is sure to have the dance floor swaying every which way.
