Mike Huckaby – Free Sample Pack

WH-MIKE-HUCKABY-press-shot-2Techno legend and vintage synthesizer enthusiast Mike Huckaby has, time and again, defined and redefined the techno sound. From the earliest days of his career, he has sculpted, shaped, and pushed the boundaries of underground dance music. While many artists have switched to a predominantly software-based workflow and abandoned much of their “outdated” gear, Huckaby maintains a fully stocked arsenal of analog, digital, and hybrid synthesizers guaranteed to wow even the most seasoned gear heads. Luckily, Huckaby has graciously decided to share his sounds, releasing an exclusive sample pack through groove.de – the pack contains 16 phenomenal wav samples, each with full descriptions of the instruments and synthesizers used to create them. We’re beyond thrilled to have gotten our hands on these amazing synth samples and we hope you will be too!

Freebie Friday: Redshape – Hallo808

If there’s one thing we know about Redshape, it’s that he has a way of delivering house and techno unlike anyone else out there. The Berlin artist chooses to perform anonymously, embracing a red mask. But don’t let the mask fool you as an overused gimmick; his music certainly reinforces his artist persona. From sets like Circoloco at DC-10, Ibiza to productions being supported by artists such as Cassy, Sian, and Steffi, his sound acts as a puppeteer to the dancefloor.

Redshape offered up an absolutely gritty 808 inspired jam as a free download on Halloween back in 2013. Not for the faint of heart, this is mostly a DJ tool that can be used at disposal when needing to add some serious punch to a set. His ethos has always been about an emphasis on the music, in all aspects. While this is a very dance floor driven track and a giveaway, Redshape has a catalog that stretches far and wide, fully expressing his range as an artist. You can download the track below from his Soundcloud.

Freebie Friday: Justin Martin

Justin Martin EXLAWhen it comes to high quality bass and house music, the Dirtybird crew can be considered master chefs. Luckily for us folks in Los Angeles, they’ve held down a residency this year at Exchange LA with many of their artists coming through to lay down dance floor heat. This Saturday the Dirtybird night includes Justin Martin, Jimmy Edgar, Justin Jay, and Christian Martin. We’re already more than excited, but here’s two free downloads from Justin Martin to help us get in the right mindset for the evening.

RSVP and pre-sale tickets are available on our Events tab.

Just imagining Justin Martin’s rework of Ultraista – Small Talk coming through the sound system at Exchange puts us in a good mood. It’s a fantastic bass heavy rework that has all the essential elements that give it that quintessential Dirtybird feel.

The second free download, Don’t Go (VIP) starts off with an ensemble of strings that rain down from the bass heavens. A beautiful compilation of strings only to fade into the deep bass and groove suited for the dance floor. The download is at the standard 320 bit rate, but head on over to the Dirtybird Drip.fm and there are some more goodies available there. (For a small subscription fee).

A big night ahead this Saturday for the Dirtybird takeover at Exchange. Enjoy these free downloads, and we’ll see you on the dance floor!

Freebie Friday: Premiesku – Despre Ei

When it comes to minimal, not many do it better than the Romanians. Livio & Roby in conjunction with George G make up the deadly minimal trio known as Premiesku. Deep rolling grooves, sizzling percussion, and waves of textures are all employeed to deliver warm grooves to the dance floor. For this week’s Freebie Friday, here’s a free download of Despre Ei, a track from their Move 4 release this October.

Despre Ei is a well rounded dance floor tool. Minimal percussion and a stinging off kick hat pattern provide the groove, while distant chords hit steadily in the background. Premiesku continues to keep the genre of minimal interesting with their various soundscapes and dub textures.

The trio will also be releasing their third EP this year Monday, December 8th on Desolat. A very strong platform for Premiesku to push their sound and grow as their collective techno collaboration.

Freebie Friday: Climbers – Hello / Wise Man

climbers live

Today’s freebie comes courtesy of the fantastic duo from Mexico, Climbers. Having released on prominent labels such as Get Physical, My Favorite Robot, and LA’s Culprit, the duo’s music is gaining widespread popularity amongst DJ’s and fans alike.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise either. Climbers have the ability to infuse house grooves and rhythms with deeper elements making them a double threat in the booth, literally. So to honor the duo, here are two free tracks that they’ve offered up on their Soundcloud.

First we have Hello, a driving deep house track encompassing the sound they’ve become so well known for. Plucked leads and pads to go along with a steady drum pattern makes this one a great functional dance floor tool. Take a listen and download it here.

Next up from Climbers is Wise Man. Droning pads echo in the background as it fades to a strong kick with slightly reverbed claps, only to chug along until the processed lead plucks come in. From start to finish the track continues to evolve and is loaded with emotion. It isn’t until about four minutes into the track that the tension builds with modular stabs giving the track just enough of an extra boost. Take a listen and download Wise Man here.

Freebie Friday #2: Avatism – Different Spaces feat. Forrest

Different Spaces receives vocal support by Forrest resulting in a contemplative atmosphere as deep kicks give life to the track.
