Your Complete Party Guide to Movement Detroit 2017

It’s that time of the year once more as Movement Detroit nears and parties happening in the city throughout Memorial Day Weekend begin to get announced. With so much happening on the course of five days, we have put together this comprehensive guide to help you choose and plan your weekend with ease.

The list is sorted in order by day, with events displayed alphabetically. While most are afterparties, there are a few day parties too which are clearly marked to avoid confusion. It’s Detroit during Movement weekend, so bear in mind that some night parties turn into day parties, and sometimes certain events go longer than originally announced.

The 6AM staff combed through the entire list and selected favorites that we recommend based on years of experience traveling to Detroit for Movement weekend. Please be aware that some lineups are still TBD and some parties are altogether still yet to be announced. We will be updating this list daily to ensure it’s complete for your use. As you prepare your trip to Detroit, also check out our expansive City Travel Guide to help you get the most out of your stay.

Paradigm Presents Announces Dixon b2b Seth Troxler Open-To-Close Movement After-Party

The Paradigm Presents crew is taking over Leland City Club once more this coming Movement Detroit weekend, with a special edition of their Motorcity Madness series taking place on Sunday, May 28th.

For the occasion, the upstairs section of the historic venue will be taken over entirely by two heavyweights of the techno and house music scene. The artists in question? None other than Detroit-raised Seth Troxler and Innervisions boss Dixon.

The two will join forces for a never-done-before back-t0-back set from club opening time until the music cuts off in the early hours of the morning. Knowing how Detroit gets down during Movement weekend this will be the perfect opportunity for those with enough energy to waltz into a cab and make it on time for Old Miami’s doors opening at 7AM for the iconic Need I Say More day party.

Tickets are available via Ticketfly.

Chicago’s Lollapalooza 2017 Lineup Features Zero House Music, Once Again

Lollapalooza’s 2017 lineup came out today and, surprise surprise, it contains zero house music acts.

Chicago’s role in the foundation of house music during the 1980s, and its subsequent influences on all other genres and sub-genres of electronic music since, is well known. A first descendent of disco, house music found its beginnings in Chicago, thanks to the iconic parties that featured the music of pioneers such as Frankie Knuckles, Leonard Remix RRoy, Chip E and of course Farley “Jackmaster” Funk. House music became popular in Chicago clubs in 1984, quickly spreading to other American cities such as Detroit, New York City, Baltimore, and Newark – all of which developed their own regional scenes. In the mid-to-late 1980s, house music became popular in Europe as well as major cities in South America, and Australia.

Yet, Chicago’s biggest music festival, Lollapalooza, fails year in and year out to feature any adequate amount of true house music, if any at all. Understandably several facets of rock music are represented en masse, as well as rap, hip-hop and pop and while the lineup does include some great Chicago artists, one of the city’s most recognized genres of music remains grossly underrepresented.

Eric Prydz To Launch First Ever Ibiza Residency at Hï Ibiza

Eric Prydz is returning to the White Island this summer, this time for a ten-week residency at the brand new Hï Ibiza which has taken over the building previously occupied by Space.

The Playa d’en Bossa nightclub is scheduled to open its doors this summer, aiming to continue to bring more “underground” acts to the repurposed space while also adopting more of the VIP signature lifestyle that characterizes the events that take place across the street at Ushuaïa. Both venues are now owned by Ushuaïa Entertainment, which explains the programming direction that Hï is taking in confirming residencies that so far include Black Coffee and Martin Garrix just to name two.

Today Eric Prydz confirmed he will be taking over the club for ten consecutive weeks between the 20th of June and the 22nd of August. The residency, which is Eric’s first ever in Ibiza, will allow his team to use the club’s blank canvas to work their magic, building a site specific show for the residency, creating a unique stage for Eric to present his inimitable blend of house and techno across his Pryda and Cirez D aliases. The Prydz residency will bring a singular visual and audio experience to the Ibiza season.

“Hï offered us a unique opportunity to go into a new club, with a blank canvas to build something special, and very unique without existing limitations. For my debut Ibiza residency I wanted a platform to do things on my own terms, inviting the artists I want to host, in a space that we are creating” – Eric Prydz.

Eric will be joined by old and new friends with Matthew Dear, Kölsch, Pig & Dan, Agoria, Catz ‘N Dogz, Tube & Berger, Dusky and more all confirmed to join him throughout the ten-week takeover.

Eric Prydz at Hï Ibiza
Every Tuesday from 20th June – 22nd August (10 weeks)

PL0T Miami Celebrates 10 Years of Cutting-Edge Underground Electronic Music Events

Ten years is an eternity when it comes to electronic music event brands. It is rare for clubs to stay open that long, so for an individual party brand to be able to stand the test of time and break the decade mark is a testament to the quality of their programming and overall party curation.

This Saturday, March 18th, PL0T Miami is celebrating their 10 year milestone with a special event at The Electrick Pickle in Downtown Miami. For the special occasion, the party curator has organized a lineup featuring none other than Innervisions extraordinaire Âme, label-mate Marcus Worgull and the Miami debut of Moscoman.

6AM spoke to Rebeca Lange, the founder and head of Unreal MGMT, the company behind the PL0T brand, ahead of the 12-hour soiree planned this weekend:
